Job Posting - German Teacher at Swartz Creek High School: Friday, July 10 (Application Deadline)

Swartz Creek High School is looking for a full-time German teacher to start in the fall of the 2026-27 school year.

* Full-time German in the High School building
* Levels 1 and 2
* Whoever will be hired will have access to the full years' worth of unit and lesson plans for both levels, so someone new to teaching can focus on delivery and instruction instead of lesson planning. German Bundestag Internship Program 2027: Friday, July 31 (Application Deadline)

The International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag brings together democratically engaged people from around the world—fostering the spirit of international cooperation in a sui generis program where the lingua franca is German!

In the five-month program (March 1 - July 31, 2027) in Berlin, participants complete a three-month internship in the office of a Member of the Bundestag as part of a broader program of university courses, cultural events, and special enrichment opportunities.

The Goethe-Institut Boston is seeking a TOP Education Projects Manager to begin work September 1, 2026. This role will collaborate with the TOP Managing Director to plan and implement in-person study tours to Germany for educators, will support program fellows with post-tour curriculum development and workshop leadership, and will manage the TOP Alumni Network and associated educational and alumni initiatives.

Responsibilities:
* Curriculum Development and Instructional Design:
* Support program fellows with curriculum design, review submissions and offer feedback
* Work with educators to develop and publish new social studies and STEM curriculum on contemporary Germany
* Manage digital TOP Lessons Portal and hard-copy material distribution and inventory
* Conceptualize, coordinate, and moderate virtual professional development seminars on contemporary Germany
* Oversee the TOP Alumni Network, conceptualize and implement new education and outreach initiatives
* Create and post social media content to promote TOP educational materials, workshops and conference, study tours, and alumni projects
* Support TOP workshop leaders with information and materials, track workshop leadership and attendance
* Collaborate with other team members to plan, organize, and implement professional development study tours in Germany

Requirements:
* Professional level fluency in both German and English, minimum B2 preferred
University degree (preferred MA/M.Ed.) in the fields of education, international affairs, German studies, or another applicable field
* Knowledge of current issues in contemporary Germany and the United States, preferred experience living and/or studying in Germany
* Experience with instructional design and curriculum development, preferred experience working in the U.S. K-12 education system
* Strong writing and communication skills; confidence with public speaking, presenting, and leading virtual meetings
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to converse easily with new contacts, facilitate meaningful group discussions, manage group social dynamics, and moderate conflict
* Strong technical skills and experience working with Microsoft 365 and MS Office applications, survey or form applications, social media platforms, content design applications (Canva), website content management systems, and contact database systems
* Experience using social media to promote events and projects
* Capable of multitasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills and attention to detail
* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
* Ability to work flexible hours during the week and occasionally on weekends
* Ability to travel for business or training purposes (for up to two-week stretches), appropriate documentation to enter Germany for travel

Summer Sings - Haydn's 'Paukenmesse': Monday, August 3, 7 p.m., Palmer Commons, Great Lakes Room, 4th Floor

The UMS Choral Union invites you to take part in the return of Summer Sings. Just come as you are to this no-audition, no-performance evening of memorable music-making!

As many as 250 singers from southeastern Michigan, northern Ohio, and Canada have joined each session in singing through great choral repertoire with some of the nation’s most respected choral conductors and outstanding soloists. We rehearse portions of the score during the first half, break for refreshments, and then re-convene to sing through the entire work.

Summer Sings costs $5.00 paid at the door (cash only). Please arrive early at 6:30 pm for registration.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Sunday, August 30 (Campus Deadline)

The Institute of International Education (IIE), on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which offers research, study, and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students. This competition is administered on campus by the International Institute.

In 2025-2026, the University of Michigan was a "top producer" of finalists for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Study Abroad in Germany - Winter 2027 in Tübingen: Tuesday, September 15 (Application Deadline)

The Tübingen program, which is organized through the Center for Global and Intercultural Studies (CGIS), takes place in the Winter term, and it is intended for students who have completed at least German 221/231 by the end of the Fall 2026 term. The German Department strongly recommends that you precede your stay in Tübingen by attending one or two three-week sessions at the Goethe Institut.

This Goethe Institut segment is not part of the CGIS program itself. Please talk with Mary or me about the Goethe segment.

The CGIS portion in Tübingen will start early in March with a mandatory 'Startkurs' (up to 6 credits). While you will be enrolled for the Winter 2027 term at the University of Michigan, you will then take classes during the 'Sommersemester' at the Universität Tübingen (mid April - late July). You will earn 15-18 credits for Winter 2027: the courses that you take in Tübingen can be language courses for international students or regular university courses.

Various university courses outside the English Department are taught in English. Tübingen credits can be used to satisfy degree requirements for a German major or minor.

Study Abroad in Germany - Social Sciences and Humanities in Berlin (Winter 2027): Tuesday, September 15 (Application Deadline)

This English-taught IES program is designed for students without a German language background who are looking for an in-depth look at the culture and context of the metropolis of Berlin. German majors should consider the University of Michigan programs in Freiburg and Tübingen.

The program examines issues relevant to major cities today, such as architecture, cultural identity, gender and sexual politics, multiculturalism, popular culture, and urban studies. Wherever possible, courses take advantage of the city’s many historical, artistic, and cultural sites. A 4-credit German language course is required for beginning and intermediate students. On-site staff help the students integrate into life in Berlin. Learning is enhanced by an extended course-related trip to Vienna or Warsaw and various day trips to German cities. During free time, tour neighborhoods and visit museums to gain a better understanding of Germany’s complex history and culture.

Eligibility:
* Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing
* Good academic standing
* Minimum 2.75 overall GPA
* No previous German language study is required

Academics:
Students must take 13-16 credit hours per semester. One German language course (4 credits) is required for beginning and intermediate students. All other courses are taught in English and worth 3 credits unless otherwise stated. Two week-long field trips will be included in the program, as well as day excursions that complement your learning in the classroom and contribute to a general knowledge of German culture and society.
